I'll be in Brooklyn tomorrow!

Mega printmaking nerd explosion

Dear Artists,

Reminder: I'll be at the Brooklyn Print Fair tomorrow through Sunday! The tours I'm giving are free with entry, but limited to 15 people and it's on a first come, first serve basis. Tour info.

I'm doing a panel discussion, is Print Ecosystem 101: Navigating Curators, Galleries, and Academia and is on Friday, April 10, 4-5pm in Small Hall.

I'd love to see you!

xoxo Prof Lieu

Learning is easier with artist friends!

Creating art on your own is lonely and slow. Meeting artist friends in Art Club makes learning fun, you'll be supported by others who understand.

I’m not inclined to enroll in art school for a number of reasons, but Art Club has such robust content delivered through user-friendly platforms and skilled teaching artists who are invested in our growth, I don’t need a formal academic program.

What I'll cherish forever

I loved my 1 on 1 conversations with my RISD professor Tony Janello, I could tell him what I was really thinking, away from the other students.

The FEAST tier in Art Club is where you can have the same experience. Speak to me 1 on 1 every month in addition to the supportive Art Club community.

I hope I survive this...

ICYMI, I'm going out of my mind working on a book hahaha! I have to stay mum on the title and content, but let's just say you'll find it relevant. Be the first to find out by signing up here.

Problematic Bok Choy photo from the internet Dear Artists, I've noticed a common thread among self-taught artists is how much emphasis is placed on completing a finished artwork, at the expense of the early stages. Let's say I want to draw bok choy and search for reference photos online. The photo above has highlights that are blown out which makes the form look flat. The one below is too pale and bright, and the positioning in both images is stiff and boring. photo from the internet I'm just...

What keeps me grounded Dear Artists, When I was in art school, there were concepts like warm and cool colors that felt like a slow drip that would eventually sink in. I learn best when I get to absorb a concept several times, in different formats, from different artists. At the same time, I came to rely on my mentors to keep grounded. No matter what was going on, everything would come into focus when we talked. I was at the Brooklyn Print Fair this week and met up with Andrew Raftery, who I...

My Happy Places Dear Artists, I'm writing from NYC, which exploded with printmaking this weekend with the Brooklyn Print Fair (where I did tours + a panel) and the IFPDA fair. You can pick up a $32,000 print by German expressionist Erich Heckel or a $250,000 print by contemporary artist Nicole Eisenman. I need to level up on selling my art! IFPDA is different than the average art fair because in addition to contemporary art, there are many galleries where you could purchase a monotype by...
